At the behest of my mother, I started LADYPANTS in the summer of 2011. I had just exited a job at a fledgling e-commerce site as a Personal Shopper, and was curious what my next step would be. I knew fashion; I understood its ebb, its flows, and wanted to discuss my fascination and frustration with the art form–and I specifically wanted to do it from my vantage point.
So I started writing it all down: just scribbles here and there, but always I wanted to etch out a narrative. I wanted to create a sense of connection between myself, the clothes, the style. I just don’t think scrolling through images unpacks the people wearing the clothing; I think starting a dialogue about those individuals featured is much more important. Fashion and style are heady subjects, when handled carefully, so I wanted LADYPANTS to be sensitive to that.
I’m also just a self-anointed “bluestocking”, who loves fashion and tries to infuse my underused liberal arts background into my work. I think it works out most of the time, with references to Isabel Marant, Woody Allen, and James Joyce all in one post. Pithy, yet degenerate, I’m just a geek with an ever-expanding wardrobe at the end of the day.
I hope that’s something you can relate to.
